How much life insurance do you need?
There is no single right answer — it depends on what you would want to provide for. A common starting point is enough to clear your mortgage and other debts, replace your income for a number of years so your family can keep up their standard of living, and leave a buffer for future costs such as childcare or education.
From that total, you can subtract any cover you already have — for example through an employer — and any savings earmarked for the purpose. The result is a sensible ballpark, not a precise figure.
